These fascinating photos of a family‘s adventures in Egypt， Russia and beyond provide a rare look into what holidays were like for the privileged and rich long before the days of Instagram filters and Facebook statuses。

The photographer， Friedrich Adolf Paneth， was born in Austria in 1887 to Jewish parents and went on to receive a PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Vienna in 1910。

摄影师弗里德里希·阿道夫·帕内特1887年出生在奥地利，他的双亲都是犹太人。1910年，帕内特获得了维也纳大学有机化学博士学位。

After marrying Else Hartmann， daughter of the historian Ludo Hartmann， in 1913， the pair set out for a four-month honeymoon in Cairo， where they saw sights like the Pyramid of Menkaure and the Temple of Deir el-Medina， and rode camels in the desert。

1913年帕内特取了历史学家卢多·哈特曼之女埃尔泽·哈特曼为妻，而后他们前往开罗开始了长达4个月的蜜月旅行。在那里，他们看到了蒙卡拉金字塔和德尔麦迪那神庙，还骑着骆驼横穿沙漠。

During the 1920s especially， the Paneth family saw stunning sights around Europe and beyond， capturing over 2，000 images。
